According to new allegations from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a two-decade sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a commutation application for review by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Claimed at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee revealed that a whistleblower provided information indicating Maxwell is working on the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, declared in a news release that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with document preparation and submission to support her bid for executive mercy.

Specific details of the clemency request are unknown, the congressman noted.

Claimed Perks and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, per the insider, the prisoner has been receiving “customized” meals that are hand-delivered to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized private meetings for her and her visitors.

These meetings allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for attendees and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which Raskin described as an exceptional measure given the potential danger and potential for unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other inmates, Maxwell was provided directions about instructing her contacts to contact and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers promptly, she reportedly employed the official as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The news release states that those writing to her would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to the inmate, for her to examine and change and return them to the official to scan and provide to the original sender.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Other privileges reportedly provided to her include time to “play with” a service dog puppy – a benefit typically prohibited – as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson noted.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, it was reported that Maxwell told friends and family in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

In August, Maxwell was transferred from a secure facility in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most detainees are serving time for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which experts described as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, the official, who also once acted as the President's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own connections to the fallen billionaire and adjudicated criminal, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while awaiting prosecution on sex-trafficking charges.

Congressional Response

Through the statement, Raskin also revealed that he had sent a letter to Trump, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and called on the chief executive to deny the clemency appeal.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with government agents waiting on her every need, or with any special treatment or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche appear for a open legislative session to discuss the revelations and also posed three questions to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a potential commutation for the convict with Blanche or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to provide her with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, family or representatives have made any promises to Trump or his legal team.

Raskin has asked for a response to the questions by the specified date.

Last month, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
